Depending on professional background, experience and family situation, a competitive compensation and benefits package will be offered. The successful applicant will be offered a temporary appointment for the duration of the case limited to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL). Any subsequent extension(s) are subject to terms of the Tribunal’s mandate and/or the availability of the funds. The Special Tribunal for Lebanon is an international inter-governmental organization with its own independent legal identity and not a UN organization. However, STL follows the UN common system for benefits and entitlements to its staff members. UN staff members may also serve on loan from their parent department/office, if selected.
The recruitment process may include a pre-selection procedure, written tests and interviews to assess levels of competency.

A roster of suitable candidates may be established for this particular profile as a result of this selection process for both fixed-term established and general temporary assistance posts.

A selected Associate Case Manager will be hired as staff member to the Victims Participation Unit for the duration of case but will work directly with the Victims counsel.

This announcement is also an open call to fill a Roster of qualified Associate Case Managers for future needs. Candidates will be interviewed before being admitted to the Roster. An Associate Case Manager may be selected from the Roster or may be re-interviewed.



Responsibilities
Working directly with the Victims Counsel and with his/her delegated authority, the incumbent performs a wide range of functions within the Victims Team representing an indigent victim before the Special Tribunal.

The Associate Case Manager is responsible for the performance of the following duties:

• Prepare and update the case record for trial.

• Ensure efficient and complete logging of disclosure of documents by categorizing and summarizing documents.

• Prepare exhibits and materials for production in court.

• Monitor the evidence produced in court and ensure adequate coordination of submissions and technical liaison.

• Work with Counsel in the preparation, organization and administrative management of the case file and the pre-trial and trial hearings.

• Provide administrative and logistical support to the legal teams who will be assigned to represent indigent victims.

• Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge and Skills

Qualifications
• Education: Advanced university degree, in a relevant related subject such as law, management, politics, information technology. Study and experience of criminal law/public international law/international criminal law/Lebanese law is an asset. A first-level university degree in combination with 4 years qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

• Work Experience: A minimum 2 years of progressively responsible relevant professional experience, such as experience in the practice of case management at a domestic or international criminal court. Experience in complex cases such as multi-defendant cases, terrorism, murder and organized crime cases is an asset. Prior experience in international investigations or at international criminal tribunals is an asset. Awareness of the political, historical and cultural context of the Middle East is an asset. Knowledge of databases and/or legal analysis software is an asset.

• Languages: Arabic, English and French are the official languages of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. For this post, fluency in oral and written English or French is required with good knowledge of the other. Knowledge of Arabic is a strong asset.
