Depending on professional background, experience and family situation, a competitive compensation and benefits package will be offered. The successful applicant will be offered a temporary appointment until 31 December 2017 limited to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL). This appointment and any subsequent extension(s) will be subject to terms of the Tribunal's mandate and/or the availability of funds.

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon is an international inter-governmental organization with its own independent legal identity and not a United Nations (UN) organization. However, the STL follows the UN common system for benefits and entitlements to its staff members. UN staff members may also serve on loan from their parent department/office, if selected.
The recruitment process may include a pre-screening exercise, written tests and competency-based interviews.
It is not necessary at this stage to send copies of qualifications, previous employment contracts, entire publications, etc.

Responsibilities
Reporting to and under the supervision of the Chief of the Specialised Team, the Assistant Forensic Officer will be responsible for performing the following duties:

•Assists when required, at the appropriate level under guidance of the Chief of the Specialised Team, in the management of forensic projects and evidence (exhibits inventory, chain of custody, exhibits databases, etc);
•Applies and respects the Forensic Unit's established standard operating procedures and protocols;
•Conducts forensic and scientific evidence-related duties and activities, including, where applicable, the collection, examination and analysis of forensic evidence;
•Assesses information holdings in various forms and formats for the identification of investigative leads, evidence, and other material relevant to trial proceedings;
•Searches, collates and synthesizes large amounts of multi-sourced data, in particular forensic data, into comprehensive reports, to an evidential standard;
•Ensures that all forensic evidence-related information is properly documented and registered;
•Populates and exploits relational databases;
•Participates in field activities, as required;
•Performs other assignments, as required.
Knowledge and Skills
•Professionalism - Knowledge of forensic techniques and procedures; good knowledge of exhibits management, digital imaging; Ability to execute various forensic tasks; familiarity with analytical techniques in forensic sciences.
•Teamwork - Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity, including gender issues is necessary.
• Planning & Organizing - Ability to organize complex and voluminous sets of records and facts; ability to work under stressful conditions and meet deadlines.

•Communication - Ability to communicate effectively with police, forensic, academic or other relevant networks.
Qualifications
• Education: Advanced University degree, preferably in Forensic Science. A diploma in Forensic Science from a National Police or law enforcement Academy or relevant training course in combination with relevant professional experience may be acceptable in lieu of the University degree.

• Work Experience: At least two years of relevant experience in forensic investigations/examinations, with a special focus on complex criminal cases or cases before international criminal tribunals and/or special support techniques to investigations in a governmental agency, scientific police institute, criminal science school, or as a private expert. Experience in exhibits management and digital imaging is essential. Work experience is not required if the candidate holds a Master's degree.

• Languages: Arabic, English and French are the official languages of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of the other languages is an asset.
